	The ABAS Software AG is one of the first providers of business management standard software which utilizes the formidable strength of this operating system. Since 1995, the Karlsruhe software house has gained experience with Linux as a server operating system, 2002 ABAS presented the Linux Client.

	About 80% are Linux installations

	With more than 2100 installations of abas Business Software is ABAS Software AG one of the most successful providers of ERP systems in the German market. The software specialists have supplied the standard software since 1995 on Linux also.
	Since 1994, the software developers of abas have been using Linux alongside Windows NT and Unix servers of all leading producers. All were impressed by the advantages of this operating system right from the beginning. "The fast File System, the efficient handling of hardware resources, the memory management, as well as the robustness, impressed us already at that time", says Werner Strub, CEO of ABAS Software AG.
	1995 was the first time that ABAS delivered its ERP software on Linux. Mr. Strub: "The positive experiences have encouraged us to continue. By the end of 1997 we had 30 installed systems. The break-through came in 1998: From this point onwards the abas installations in the Linux server area continued to increase."

	Linux stands for one of the most powerful operating systems

	Support and maintenenace of the Linux applications are so easy and unproblematic as any provider of ERP software could wish for. This is mirrored in the resonance received from the users. "We either receive positive feedback from our customers, or we are not contacted at all, because the system runs without hiccups", explains Werner Strub.
	After tentative beginnings with a maximum of 20 workstations, Linux installations are today growing to a size of up to 200 clients. The rapid development of the hardware makes this possible.
	The "typical Linux user" cannot be found at ABAS. There are small companies with 5 to 10 workstations, where users have no knowledge of operating systems. But also companies with complex networks and an EDP department are using Linux. When in the past it were mainly pragmatical thinking medium sized companies, today more and more large organizations, at times subsidiaries, are using Linux as the server operating system. "Incidentally the user at ABAS remains flexible. The customer can, at any time, change from Linux to Windows or any other server operating system. or vice versa - the choice is his", emphazises the ABAS CEO.

	What are the advantages for Linux users? Linux is a mature and highly sophisticated operating system with an excellent performance, availability and scalability. That Linux is available at no cost is pleasing for the user. From the ABAS point of view other advantages of Linux carry more weight. Mr. Strub: "Even if Linux would have to be purchased at normal market terms and conditions it would be worth while. Aside from the already mentioned advantages are items like WEB server, Proxy Server, eMail etc. included in the delivery. For the user it is important that the system runs trouble-free. which he can expect from Linux with confidence. So in the long term he really saves money."
	The ABAS Software AG offers the ERP software for Windows as well as for Linux and other Unix operating systems. The user decides which system fits his business best, taking into consideration the posed requirements. "Linux is in many cases an interesting alternative for us. For the open operating system speaks the growing confidence: Linux enjoys an increasing popularity in many companies and in the public domain, e.g. the German Bundestag, in many cities and municipalities, but also in countries like Belgium, France, China and Norway. The Linux support via the Internet today functions more reliably and faster than some professional hotlines", knows Mr. Strub from experience.
	ABAS Software AG and also the abas partner periphery, offer a regular hardware and Linux support through maintenance contracts to safeguard a higher availability of the systems for their customers.
	An innovation is, that ABAS offers Linux also in the Front End range as an alternative.
